Many of you are hopeful that new laws will result in bigger refunds than what you received this past year. With that being said, I hope that you have been diligent with your accounting methods and followed protocol with having the proper withholdings taken out per paycheck.
The W-4 tells your employer how much federal income tax to withhold from your paycheck. If too little is
withheld, you’ll owe taxes when you file. If too much is withheld, you’ll get a big refund (an interest-free
loan to the IRS).
Step 1: Enter your personal information and filing status.
Step 2: If you have multiple jobs or a working spouse, use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator or the
Multiple Jobs Worksheet.
Step 3: Claim dependents for credits like the Child Tax Credit.
Step 4: Adjust for other income, deductions, or add extra withholding.
Step 5: Sign and date the form.
• Use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator:

• Review your W-4 annually or after major life changes.
• If you owed taxes last year, consider adding an extra amount in Step 4(c).
If you owed $1,200 last year, divide by the number of paychecks this year (e.g., 24). Add $50 to Step 4(c) for each paycheck.
Have your records organized to make preparing a tax return easier. It may also help you discover potentially overlooked deductions or credits.
